About PHIPass

Engineering privacy for healthcare workflows.

PHIPass was built to solve a critical healthcare challenge: how to collaborate on clinical documents, consult external specialists, and explore modern AI tools without risking patient confidentiality or transferring PHI to cloud servers.

The Origin and Philosophy

Healthcare professionals frequently face a painful dilemma: patient charts, pathology reports, and medical scans must be shared with researchers, external billing reviewers, or consulted against AI models. Yet transmitting these records over the cloud or uploading them to third-party SaaS providers introduces substantial data breach risks and requires complex legal agreements.

We designed PHIPass around a strict local-first principle: your hardware does the work. Document text extraction, multi-model optical character recognition (OCR), clinical natural language processing (NLP), and redaction occur directly in workstation memory.

Independent Design & Development

PHIPass is independently engineered and operated. While designed to integrate smoothly with healthcare identity providers and clinic infrastructure, the software operates self-contained on macOS and Windows.

Our Commitments

  • Zero document cloud egress: We will never upload your clinical documents, scanned charts, images, or extracted text to cloud servers.
  • Honest compliance boundaries: We reject the marketing myth of "one-click 100% guaranteed de-identification." Healthcare documents are complex; our software assists and accelerates review, but clinicians retain the final verification authority.
  • Fail-closed engineering: Ambiguous text, low-contrast scans, and uninspected layers fail closed to prevent silent data leakage.
